A cosmetologist who started her own business was interested in switching from phone calls to book appointments and tracking on paper to an online experience. Answering calls and scheduling was taking time away from the clients in her chair. Something easy to navigate, easy to capture a deposit from the potential client and to advertise services/pricing was important in the project scope. A simple solution to streamline the booking process and upsell services and products without being a full e-commerce website.

The objective was to not only display services/pricing for clients but also communicate Kelli Jane’s new credit card deposit process. With inflation continuing to rise, she needed one central place to display pricing adjustments. A simple way to capture deposits for appointments without integrating a credit card processor on her site was a challenge in this design, as well as upselling products without being an e-commerce site. Using simple solutions to display these challenges are presented in the mockups below.
Based on initial consultation with Kelli Jane there were a few main objectives to stick to.
• Way to capture CC deposits without setting up a CC processor on the site.
• Not overly complicated and notes where needed for older clientele.
• Appear fun, colorful and precise to reflect what she does with her client’s hair.
After creating wireframes and a customer journey flow, I had enough base to start design. A brand/style guide was the first step I used to keep this project heading in the right direction. Keeping our goals and objectives in mind, I selected colors, icons, images, and typefaces accordingly.
Creating prototypes so Kelli Jane could see and use the website was the final step before handing over. I utilized ProtoPie to create an interactive prototype for the mobile experience. Integrating data to ensure appointment schedules line up with business hours and availability will ensure Kelli Jane can ditch their manual scheduling books!
