PROBLEMS TO SOLVE
Connecting Data & Communication Platforms
Leading this initiative, I first aligned cross-functional stakeholders around a shared product vision before any screens were designed. I facilitated workshops to define the strategic direction, success metrics, and experience principles that guided the solution from concept through execution.
Validating the Signals That Matter
Led independent discovery into K–12 “cardinal” student data points - including attendance, performance, behavior, and connectedness - using research synthesis, workshops, and feedback sessions to confirm which signals are most meaningful for educators and guardians.
Humanizing Student Data for Guardians
Developed a forward-looking product vision that translates complex student metrics into approachable, action-oriented communication. Introduced the concept of a Student Success Score to summarize multiple indicators into a supportive, easy-to-understand view with drill-down transparency.

PROBLEM FRAMING
Student performance data and guardian communication tools existed in separate systems, limiting how effectively schools could act on meaningful signals. Educators could see attendance, performance, behavior, and engagement data... but outreach to families was typically triggered manually or reactively, without structured connection to those indicators.
This separation reduced the practical impact of the data and created missed opportunities for earlier, more supportive family engagement.
WHAT I SET OUT TO SOLIDIFY
Cardinal data points
I set out to confirm that attendance, performance, behavior, and engagement data were truly the core indicators of student success across K–12 contexts.
Communication trigger signals
I worked to validate which data patterns should trigger proactive guardian communication and when outreach is most helpful versus overwhelming - through workshops and cross-functional idea sessions.
Guardian-friendly data framing
I explored how student data could be presented in a way that feels supportive and actionable for families, rather than punitive or intimidating, while still preserving transparency and drill-down detail.
Conducted workshops on vision alignment, cardinal data points and feedback on workshop format to get a complete/full picture.

OPPORTUNITY
By connecting student data signals with guardian communication workflows, outreach could become more timely, relevant, and preventative rather than reactive. Instead of messaging based on isolated events, schools could communicate based on patterns and combined indicators.
This opened the door to a data-backed communication model - one that supports educators, informs families, and creates measurable platform value across products.

VISION PROTOTYPE
I developed a forward-looking prototype that demonstrated how our data, communications, forms, workflows, evaluation tools, and school web systems could operate as a connected ecosystem. The prototype illustrated trigger-based communication, cross-surface insights, and unified engagement flows across educator and guardian experiences.
This concept work was self-initiated and validated through workshops, feedback sessions, and iterative walkthroughs to test clarity, usefulness, and adoption potential.

Humanizing Student Data for Guardians
SOLUTIONING
To make complex student data more universally understandable, I introduced the concept of a Student Success Score - a composite indicator combining attendance, performance, behavior, and engagement signals into a single, supportive summary view.
Rather than presenting raw metrics alone, the model uses a clear visual indicator with drill-down transparency, helping to quickly understand overall trajectory while still accessing detailed data when needed. The goal was to shift data conversations from intimidating or punitive to constructive and action-oriented.
District thresholds to set triggers for what areas are more important than others.
Indicators for k-12 employees vs guardians needed to be considered separately as bias, negative connotions and emotions weigh high with student information

LEARNINGS & IMPACT
Connecting student data signals with communication workflows showed how powerful it is to design insight and outreach as a single system. Through independent discovery, workshops, and prototype visioning, I defined a practical model for data-backed guardian engagement and future platform integration. After the vision prototype was shared with executive leadership and the board, it directly influenced strategic direction, accelerating cross-product integration efforts and contributing to the formation of a dedicated innovation and integration team.
Strategy to Executive Adoption
Vision prototype was presented to leadership and board stakeholders and directly informed integration strategy and innovation investment.
Data-Backed Communication Model
Defined how attendance, performance, behavior, and engagement signals can responsibly power proactive guardian outreach.
Self-Initiated Vision Leadership
Independently identified the opportunity, led discovery and validation, and delivered a cross-platform concept that shaped roadmap conversations.
